President Donald Trump quickly acted to undo his predecessor’s policies and put his own plans into action, including delaying a TikTok ban, limiting illegal immigration, and boosting American energy production, by signing a series of executive orders shortly after he took office on Monday.

Immigration: Donald Trump ordered the deportation of anyone living in the U.S. illegally, ended a program that let migrants schedule appointments with Customs and Border Protection, sent the military to the border, and labeled cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
He also tried to limit birthright citizenship for children of undocumented or temporary immigrants (which is facing legal challenges), stopped the parole program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans, and brought back his “Remain in Mexico” policy, preventing many migrants from staying in the U.S. during their immigration process.
TikTok: Donald Trump signed an order delaying the TikTok ban for 75 days, though it’s unclear if he can overturn federal law, especially one supported by the Supreme Court (the law allows him to delay the ban for 90 days if there’s progress toward a sale).
DOGE: Trump created the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, to find ways to reduce government spending.
DEI: Calling diversity, equity, and inclusion programs “illegal and immoral,” one order ended all federal DEI programs, while another said the government would only recognize two genders, male and female, reversing a Biden-era rule allowing people to choose “X” on passports.
Renaming landforms: Trump reversed a 2015 decision to rename North America’s tallest peak to Denali and ordered the “Gulf of Mexico” to be renamed the “Gulf of America.”
Tariffs and trade: Trump hasn’t put tariffs in place yet, but ordered federal agencies to review trade practices, including the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, and consider creating a new “External Revenue Service” to collect tariffs.
Energy: Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement to reduce emissions, declared a “national energy emergency” to boost energy exports and reduce environmental rules, issued an order affecting Alaska’s natural resources, and stopped offshore wind leasing in federal waters, reflecting his dislike for wind energy.
Federal employees: Trump froze federal hiring and ended remote work, which might face resistance due to union agreements with federal workers.
World Health Organization: Trump pulled the U.S. out of the United Nations health agency, blaming its handling of the Covid-19 pandemic
